FINISHED!!
I have a book.. inside a cardboard laptop. I can’t believe I’ve actually done it!
I had a bit of an issue with binding, and paper, until yesterday when I researched binding with single sheets of paper, and found out about Japanese Stab binding. Good job I have an A-Level in Textiles or else I’d find it a bit difficult. But, it’s worked a charm and I actually really enjoyed learning it.
Going to take photographs in the studio later today so I’ll maybe upload those later, just some sketch book work and my boards to do tonight/tomorrow and hand in on Friday
I’m actually really pleased with how it’s turned out. I had a nightmare with paper.. I ended up buying a pack of Satin Smooth stark white paper from Paperchase which feels lovely on it’s own, so I was all excited.. Printed all my sheets out, made a few mistakes with ink/cutting and then felt the paper again and the ink just made it feel rough. Made a book out of it anyway as a back up..
BUT, I also bought some coloured paper from Paperchase and printed on that, so I have a Google coloured book instead.
Update on my cardboard MacBook
STILL having issues with the actual book, and binding. But, I need to print it all off properly tomorrow
Doesn’t help I don’t have an A3 printer/my pages are so wide.

Trying to figure out how to start my book off..
And how to bind it. Trying out some binding techniques at home. Not sure what’s going to work to be honest.
I’ve got a bit of a weird book shape so it’s not working as well as I’d hoped, maybe have to think about changing the layout..
Carboard MacBooks..
My (hopefully) final MacBook is drying at the minute.
I actually preferred it unpainted.. too late now!
I’ve to mock up some pages of me taking over Google tomorrow.. and also re-make my keyboard for the front cover - which I’m not looking forward too as that is the most fiddily bit of the entire thing.
But, hopefully I can get this done soon, and concentrate on my dissertation draft for next week.

Tash just sent me this.. and wow.
The instruments blew me away. They’re actually beautiful in the shop window display.
Also, the laptop carved out of a book? Why didn’t I think of that.. Reckon I can pull it off in a week?
The attention to detail is amazing.. and I thought I was doing good by drawing on the ports for my cardboard MacBook.

My first mock-up is done.
I know, my actual MacBook is filthy. I need to clean it soon!
But yes, cardboard MacBook number one is done.
I’ve learnt a lot about making things from cardboard. It’s not as easy as it seems for a start.. Gum tape isn’t as easy to work with either. But does help in smoothing things off.
I’m finishing off my 2nd one at the moment. I feel it’s better than this, due to the thickness of the card I’m using. It’s thinner and easier to manage and manipulate into what I want it to do.
I’m still a bit stuck on what is going in my book.. only a week or so left and I’m starting to worry about that.

Not sure how I’m feeling about some now they’ve been scanned in.
My scanner isn’t brilliant anyways so I guess that doesn’t help..

The word Google has stopped having a meaning to me now.
Just sounds like gibberish. I have written it too many times today.
Finally sorting out what is going in my book.. think it’s okay. Getting a bit of confidence back so hopefully Tash & co will like it.. or else I have no idea what I’m going to do.
Starting on number 2 and 3.. I’ve ran out of gum tape and paint.
But, going to buy some supplies tomorrow and work on what’s actually going inside the book..
I’ve ran out of paint.. awesome.
So this is as far as I’ve got. I finally fixed the hinge for the screen.. it’s a bit messy but I’ve acquired about 7 or 8 boxes so I’m gonna start on making a second one later today, hopefully it’ll be smoother and more sleek
But, for a first attempt, I’m pretty happy with how this has turned out!

Still doesn’t look like much.. and it’s only my first mock up so it’s pretty rough atm. I need more cardboard though
I’m having issues with the screen folding down. I think next time I need to make the base and screen out of one piece of card cause it’s just not working.. as I found out painting the first coat.
It fell apart.
Awesome.
5 hours and it fell apart. Ha. But never mind! I can fix it and learn for the next one..
